The development of advertising

We have just read an article called „The development of advertising”.
The article talks about the history of the advertising, starting in the 19th century, this century is also called Industrial Revolution. It was the century, when they started producing. A lot of factories produced the same products, so brand-naming of products became necessary.
From the 19th century until the 1870’s the production had steadily expanded and there had been a growth in retail outlets. But there were an over-production and under-consumption, so prices and profits fell.
The companies produced because of this crisis other goods and widened the range of them. This was the start of what economists now call “monopoly capitalism”.
Many advertisers followed Lord Leverhulme who said that advertisements should contain ‘logical and considered’ arguments. Bigger and more expensive campaigns were mounted and smaller companies, who could not advertise, were bought by lager companies.
